Properties of Aloe vera are multiple, and until now it is scientifically credited with the following properties:

Wound healing
Aloe vera gel increases the correct entwinement of the collagen fibbers over the wounded zone due the regeneration of cells and tissues. This effect is caused by the action of glycoproteins, the epithelisation and angiogenesis produced by alantoine and the anti inflammatory anti microbial effect of polysaccharides and phenolic compounds. It also facilitates sore and mouth ulceration healing or inflammatory damages in the gastrointestinal mucous membranes
Moisturizing
When used externally, Aloe vera gel increases the epithelial cells water absorption.
Anti-histaminic
Aloe vera presents a regulatory action of the excessive immunologic response against external agents.
Antiseptic
When used externally, Aloe vera has a strong anti bacterial activity.
Hair stimulator
Aloe vera facilitates the nourishment of the hair follicle thus stimulating the scalp strength.
Anti-asthmatic
Aloe vera acts as a bronchodilator due to its vessel constrictor action facilitating the normal breath.
Anti-inflammatory
Aloe vera inhibits the synthesis of postraglandins and reduces the migration and infiltration of leukocytes, the histamine release and the synthesis and secretion of leucotrienos. The anti-inflammatory quality of aloe vera has a synergetic effect with the other properties in order to facilitate the healing of wounds or in arthritic processes.
Keratolytic
Aloe vera eliminates the accumulation of dead cells in certain areas of the skin that constitute the callus
Anti haemorrhoids
The use of Aloe vera regulates the formation of haemorrhoids due to its blood vessel constrictor effect.
Disinfectant
When used externally, Aloe vera has a strong anti bacterial activity. It contains at least six antiseptic agents: lupeol, salicylic acid, urea nitrogen, cyanic acid, phenol and sulphur.
Epithelisation

Anti-ulcerous
With respect to its effects on the gastroduodenal mucosa, its protective effect against gastric mucosa injuries, anti-ulcer action and prevention against helicobacter pylory growth are remarkable. Moreover, the acemanano present in the aloe vera could be very useful against some inflammatory intestinal diseases such as Crohn disesase or ulcerous colitis.
Hipolipemiant
Within the endocrine system, Aloe vera´s hipoglucemiant and hopolipemiant activity are worth being highlighted: "The oral administration of Aloe Vera is able to reduce the glucose levels in blood … Similarly, Aloe Vera can also some positive activity over the cholesterol and triglycerides levels; however, this mechanism has not yet been elucidated
Inmunomodulator
In terms of the immune system, aloe has some inmonomodulator activity against a wide range of micro-organisms, it blocks AIDS virus and herpes virus reproduction and it also stimulates the monocytes and macrophages formation. Because of its property to induce antibodies formation, Aloe Vera is also active in situations of immunosuppression induced by ultraviolet radiation as well as in respiratory virus infections (such as flue, cold, laryngitis)


All these properties allow its use in many types of cosmetic products as well as in medicinal and pharmaceutical recipes.
